The focus of this book is on the origin, development and consequences of the preservation of Chuan-Tsun in Taiwan. It will take a multicultural-based theoretical perspective (C2) to observe the reality and implication of the preservation of Chuan-Tsun, which enables us to evaluate the possibility and limitation of Taiwan as a multicultural society (C7). It is argued that the preservation of Chuan-Tsun is not only a result of the effort of some residents to keep a record of their childhood memory, but also a consequence of Taiwan’s social and political change (C4, C5). To achieve a better understanding, we need on one hand to study the origin of Chuan-Tsun, and on the other hand, to analyze the causes and consequences of Taiwan’s structural change, which is highly associated with the rise of Taiwanese nationalistic ideology and socio-cultural imagination (C4).
