Best known for the publication Li Yi-Shan Shi Ji Jian Zhu, Yao Pei-Chien was the master of annotating Li Shang-Yin’s poetry during Ching Dynasty. However, Yao’s previous publication, Li Yi-Shan Qi Lu Hui Yi, on Li Shang-Yin’s seven-character regulated verses is less acknowledged and popular. Its block-printed editions collected in the libraries of Tsing Hua and Nan Kai University do not circulate and are thus obscure to the public. The project applicant esteems the book for two reasons: Firstly, from the diachronic point of view, Li Yi-Shan Qi Lu Hui Yi was released twelve years ahead of Li Yi-Shan Shi Ji Jian Zhu and according to author himself, the latter had been repeatedly revised based on the former. Therefore, by carefully comparing the annotations of the two books we can trace the variations of Yao’s interpretations on Li Shang-Yin poetry and achieve academic significance in terms of reception history.
