Project Details
Description
This project aims to sort through films produced from Japanese occupation period till now to locate images of railways, which are important historical documents. The films that contain these images are analyzed in terms of their film language as well as film style and aesthetics in order to find out the connection between Taiwan's railways and social life. While these precious images of railways have in time become the collective memory of Taiwan, railways also play different narrative roles in Taiwan cinema. The project points out the historical periods, genres, filmmakers, ideologies, and landscapes significant for the interdisciplinary study of railways and provides the needed theoretical basis.
