This project TaiWan AI-based Management Strategy, TWAI, for Earth andEnvironmental Disasters is aimed at developing solutions based on artificialintelligence technology to improve the performance of forecasting/predictionmodels on various Earth and environmental disasters-earthquakes, typhoons, heavy rainfalls, droughts, landslides, air pollution, space weather on ionosphericdisturbance, etc. Benefiting from Taiwan’s geographical uniqueness in Earthscience researches, this project brings many experts on earth sciences, information engineering, network and computer engineering, law and governancetogether. We will integrate data governance and AI models into a unified platformprovided by the NCHC, National Center for High-performance Computing. Afterconsidering the impact on society, humanities, and legal systems, the projectoutcomes with the AI-based solutions of scenario simulations and modelforecasting/prediction are expected to further export to Taiwan's decision supportsystem in response to natural/environmental disasters. This project is working onmany algorithms relevant to "trustworthy AI," "automated machine learning," and"distributed computing and learning." The expected results of this project will, onthe one hand, include algorithms of artificial intelligence calculations in variousfields of the Earth environmental topics. Those AI algorithms provide new datadrivenapproaches for the mastery and understanding of the Earth environmentalissues. And, on the other hand, they will also make Taiwan gradually form aninnovative AI-based decision-supporting system when encountering natural andenvironmental disasters.
