Seam carving techniques were proposed to automatically retarget image or video into speci?c aspect ratios for displaying on 3C devices, and usually, the retargeted image or video is in rectangle shape. We propose a new seam caring technique here to change the layout and background of a photo, in order to ?t it into an irregular shape. The proposed technology can be used in mobile devices which allow users to customize photos into interesting frames, such as Mickey Mouse or Hello Kitty shapes. The proposed system in this paper can be named as an automatic system for irregular shape retargeting. The results show that not only the image can be converted to different targeted shapes, but also can preserve all main objects as well as the related important background. The analysis proves that our method is better suitable for irregular shape retargeting, as compared to ROI-cropping, seam carving, or other techniques.
