Project Details
Description
Following the previous works of building a professional and operational meteorradar for the routine observation of wind and temperature profiles in meddle andlower thermosphere (MLT) region (80-120 km) over Taiwan area, this project is acontinuous one that attempts to finish the developments and installations of thesimplified version and operational version of the meteor radar systems at Chung-Li ionosonde station site. The works to be done in this year include developmentof algorithm of detection and identification of the meteor echoes from the radarreturns, development the technique for the retrieval of wind velocity andtemperature in MLT region, integration test of the radar systems, deployments ofantenna field and radar room, provisions of the facilities for internetcommunication, security, lightning protection, and air condition. A number ofresearch topics that can be carried out by using the meteor radars in combinationof Chung-Li VHF radar, FORMOSAT-7, ground-based ionosonde include tidalphenomena in MLT region, lower/upper atmospheric coupling, formationmechanism of Es layer, difference between blob-type and layer-type Esstructures, effect of meteor trails on the formation of Es layer, and so on. Theobserved data will be open to the community of upper atmosphere.
