Organization profile

The Department of Chemistry, founded in 1993, has continued to thrive in teaching, research and service. Completed with the doctoral program in 2001, the department now has 16 professors and 6 assistants to offer courses and serve students in Bachelor, Master and Ph. D. programs. The teaching goal of the department is to prepare students for their advanced study and professional careers in Chemistry, essential to the society nowadays. The department currently focuses on the two areas, Material and Environmental chemistry, in addition to the traditional sub-disciplines (organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry). The former has been solidified with the close collaborations with the Research center for New Generation Photovoltaics, supported by Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan, and a broad spectrum of analytical research in air, water and materials has been actively conducted and reported. What we have achieved in both teaching and research during the period of time has been well recognized in Asia-Pacific region and nationwide. The department is well equipped with the state-of-the-art instruments, including Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometers (up to 600 MHz solution and solid-state), X-ray Diffractometers (for single crystal and surface analysis), Scanning probe Microscopes, Mass Spectrometers, and high power Laser, etc., key to the modern chemical education and research. We believe that the future of our department relies on the vigorousness, enthusiasm, and excellence of the students and faculty. The department of Chemistry will continuously pursue international excellence in the three aspects.
